While we always do everything within our power to treat decayed and damaged teeth, some circumstances may necessitate the complete removal of a tooth from its place in your jawbone. This is known as a tooth extraction.

There are a couple of different reasons why our dentist may suggest a tooth extraction in Terrell, Texas. First, a tooth may be removed because of severe decay or dental trauma. Even after a single tooth has died, the infection that killed it can still move on to other teeth in your smile. Dental trauma can also break or fracture a tooth beyond repair. Teeth may be removed if they are growing in improperly and causing damage to your existing teeth or if your smile is overcrowded. One of the most common reasons for tooth extractions is the impaction of your third molars, or wisdom teeth. This means your wisdom teeth have grown in sideways or have gotten stuck under the gum and bone line, causing a number of painful complications.
